doctor A woman in Turkey has worked as a medical doctor for ten years without ever having graduated from medical school. Turkish newspapers reported this stunning story on Saturday.

The woman’s family had been putting so much pressure on her to become a doctor that she never had the stomach to tell them she had dropped out of medical school. This made her decide to fake the whole thing.

For years she left home every morning carrying her medical school books with her. After that she faked her M.D. diploma. She even had herself registered as an M.D. at the healthcare registry. After this she worked at various hospitals and health care centers.

Even her husband never knew she wasn’t a real doctor. She had in fact studied all her  medical school books to the letter. This might have allowed her to carry on with her scam for over ten years.

Nude Venus too sexy for London Underground

February 14, 2008 By: Bolkie Category: funny, idiot, politics, sad, stupid, weird No Comments →

london_underground_logo The London Underground, or ‘Tube’, as the Londoners like to call it, has refused to put up posters containing the image of a centuries old painting of Venus. The advertisement posters are intended to inform the travelers about the coming exhibition of German artist Lucas Cranach the Elder. That exhibition will be held in the famous Royal Academy museum in London.

The Venus is a classic painting by Cranach, dating back to around 1530. The refusal by the Underground is ” totally mad “, according to president on the Commission on Culture of the British Parliament, John Wittingdale.

A spokesman of the tube defended the underground’s prudishness :” Millions of people use the underground every day and they have no say in what advertising they see while traveling. The posters would violate the principle that men, women and children should not portrayed in a sexual way.”

How politically correct !

Pakistan forgets about Indian spy locked up for 35 years

 jail cell

Ansar Burney, Pakistan’s Human Rights Minister, announced that he has discovered an Indian spy, who is jailed in Pakistan for over 35 years. Apparently they had forgotten all about him. Kashmir Singh was arrested for espionage in 1973 and received the dead penalty for his actions. The penalty was never carried out. Since then Singh, a father of three, has been locked up in his ‘death row’ cell for at least 23.5 hours a day. All this time he did not even get one visitor, but he was allowed to stretch his legs 30 minutes a day.

The Pakistani Minister told that he was able to track down the unfortunate man after being tipped off by the Indian community in London. President Musharraf has expressed his ’shock and disbelief’ after he found out about the situation. He also told that mister Singh will be released from jail very soon.

At this moment mister Kashmir Singh is said to be ‘mentally ill’ and effort are being made to track down his family in India.

Since Pakistan and India became independent countries in 1947 they have fought three wars together. Careful peace negotiations were started in 2004. Recently they even carried out a prisoner swap. The prisoners were mostly fishermen, who had strayed into ‘enemy’ territorial waters and were detained.

Thousands attend celebrity orang utan’s funeral

ah meng About 4000 people showed up at the funeral of Ah Meng, the Sumatran orang utan of Singapore Zoo, on Sunday morning. Ah Meng, who died of old age on Friday, was a Singapore tourism icon as well as the face of the zoo for many years. She was 48 years old.

Ah Meng is survived by four children and six grandchildren.
Alagappasamy Chellaiyah, Ah Meng’s minder for 36 years, said: “All the 25 orang utans knew that something had happened because she (Ah Meng) died in the facilities. They knew that Ah Meng (was) gone. They were very quiet. Even the free ranging orang utans, they came, they refused to take food.”
Judging from the turnout at the funeral, it is clear that Ah Meng had touched the hearts of many.

For two hours starting 9am, people from all walks of life queued up to pay their final respects to Ah Meng. Many of them were visibly upset.
The atmosphere was sombre. Strangers were sharing with each other their encounters with Ah Meng.

“It’s very sad. Every time (on) my son’s birthday, I come over here,” said a member of the public who attended the funeral.
“Many years ago when we were small girls, we used to come to the zoo and look at Ah Meng,” said another.

In 1992, she became the first and only non-human recipient of the Special Tourism Ambassador award. Zoo officials, who were visibly distraught by Ah Meng’s death, said they will continue their work with Sumatran orang utans, who are critically endangered with only about 7,500 left in the world.

Couple gets married during own funeral

February 10, 2008 By: Bolkie Category: odd, sad, weird No Comments →

In Belgium a young couple was married during their own funeral. They had both lost their lives when their helicopter crashed. If it had not been for this tragic accident they were to be married later this year. The 24-year-old couple had been together 7 years and they originally planned to travel home by train. The helicopter was piloted by the father of the groom. A mother and sister were also aboard the helicopter when it crashed. Witnesses declared that the helicopter was probably brought down by technical failures.

Priest Marc Messien honored the couple by placing a white ribbon across both coffins. This way a symbolic marriage was established. “The marriage might not be official, but this way we acknowledged the couple’s love for each other." the priest later said. Music was played by the band originally scheduled to perform at the wedding.
